About Us
About Samaritans
Samaritans is here to support and help people through tough times. We give our help unconditionally with care and respect, empowering individuals to build their resilience and find their place in the community. Our belief in social justice means we stand up for what is right and are not afraid to amplify the voices of people in our society who go unheard.
What we do
Samaritans hosts a range of exciting fundraising initiatives each year to raise awareness and support our services. Your support can change the life of someone in need.
Green Light Appeal
The Green Light Appeal funds Samaritans Student Accommodation, the only service of its kind in the Hunter. It provides safe, independent housing for young people aged 16-24 who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
Green Day
Green Day is a simple and meaningful way for your workplace, school, or community group to come together and support Samaritans Green Light Appeal. By wearing green, hosting an activity, or starting a conversation, you’re helping shine a light on people in our community who need support.
Christmas at Samaritans
Samaritans is proud to make a real difference at a time no person should be alone. We have been sharing Christmas generosity, kindness, and goodwill with as many families as possible for more than 25 years. Find out how you can help us make a difference.
Volunteer with us
Your time is one of the greatest gifts you can give. If you are passionate about making a difference in your local community, consider becoming a volunteer with Samaritans.
Samaritans volunteers are crucial team members within Samaritans services. As a volunteer you will join our volunteer community who support various programs and activities throughout Newcastle, Hunter, Central Coast and the Mid-North Coast regions of NSW.
Your Impact
Make an impact today
Across our local region, we are supporting an estimated 10,000 to 15,000 people each year.
From January to March 2026, we directly supported more than 4,000 people through services including youth mental health, family support, homelessness, and permanency support.
This work reaches 26 services spanning the Hunter, Central Coast, and Mid North Coast.
Your donation helps Samaritans continue delivering vital services and support.
